The Erawan Shrine is a Hindu shrine in Bangkok, Thailand that houses a statue of Phra Phrom, the Thai representation of the Hindu creation god Brahma. Located next to the Grand Hyatt Erawan, it is a popular tourist attraction.
On March 21, 2006, the shrine was vandalised by a man believed to be mentally ill. After destroying the Brahma statue with a hammer, 27-year-old Thanakorn Pakdeepol was beaten to death by angry bystanders. Exactly 2 months later, a new Brahma statue was completed and placed in the shrine.
