The Tropenmuseum is one of the most fascinating anthropological museums in the Netherlands. A visit to the Tropenmuseum is a journey through time and around the world. You get to know widely different cultures and get an excellent impression of everyday live in the tropics. Feel the atmosphere of times long gone by, times that still exert their influence up to this very day. The Tropenmuseum is housed in a beautiful and historic building. It accomodates eight permanent exhibitions and an ongoing series of temporary exhibitions, including both modern and traditional visual arts and photographic worksobjects. For children too, the Tropenmuseum is a fantastic experience.

This museum has some cool stuff, but the way it is organized is a little hard to follow. It is also pretty splotchy as far as the information that they represent - in other words it is eclectic and scatterbrained. It takes a good few hours to get through the museum. If you have an extened stay in Amsterdam and need to kill some time this might be a good option, otherwise, there are more worthwhile things to check out in the area.
