The 420 Cafe is one of the most convenient and certainly most comfortable stops for visiting smokers. Long known as Cafe deKuil, this old-school, wood-paneled Dutch barroom has been serving drinks since early in the last century and added its extensive marijuana and hashish menu when proprietor Michael Veling took over the premises 18 years ago. A wry political activist and organizing force in the local cannabis community, his central passion is classic rock and the music of Frank Zappa, and he programs the music at the 420 with great care.

This place is centrally located just around the corner from Dam Square. Like many coffee shops in Amsterdam, this place is tiny. They do have a full bar, which is nice...
