The Café Americain as you see her today was opened in 1902. The Tiffany lamps, the murals featuring Shakespeare’s Midsummer night’s dreams and the reading tables are all original characteristics of the Café Americain. For over a hundred years the Café Americain has been and still is a place to meet for writers, musicians, actors and other artist and above all for the local population and international visitors. The Café Americain is the only Art Deco styled restaurant in Amsterdam. We would like you to visit and experience the charm and beauty of the Café. Located in the Amsterdam American Hotel.

Read a lot of great reviews about this place, but several of them knocked the food a little. They were right. The ambience is great and the building is beautiful. The service was very good as well. However, the food wasn't up to par for the price. My wife and I had an appetizer, 2 entrees, 2 desserts and 4 beers for 74 Euros. Not a bad price if the food was very good. However, the food was somewhat bland and my Crab Canneloni was about the smallest portion I have ever received in a restaurant. Worth eating at once for the beauty of the building, but not somewhere I would get really excited about going back to.
