El Geuro Canelo was started by the Contreras family in 1993. The restaurant was started based on an idea from Daniel's wife, Bianca Contreras, while on a trip to Mexico. Daniel and Bianca spoke of having a Mexican restaurant where carne asada and mexican hot dogs could be sold. The goal was to provide the best authentic mexican cuisine available within the Tucson area. Thus began the legendary El Geuro Canelo Taco stand. The taco stand grew into what El Geuro Canelo is today.

Saw the high reviews on other sites and had to check it out. I had a chicken burro and a Torta that typically comes with beef or chicken. I had them hold the meat on the torta. The burrito was pretty good and the chicken had good flavoring and was cooked perfectly. I'm not a huge meat eater so I took about half the chicken out - there was a ton of it. Now for the Torta.. That was something special, even without meat. The bread was incredible and I am guessing that they make their own. The place is kind of like a fast food joint with no alcohol, but they make some good food. Not a great place if you are vegetarian.
