Hanalei Beach (Waioli Beach Park)
Famous for its spectacular beauty, Hanalei Bay is two miles long, 125 feet wide, and bordered by the Hanalei River to the east and the Waipa River to the west. Hanalei is the largest bay on the island of Kauai and nearly a perfect semi-circle of white sand. At the westernmost curve of the bay, you'll find a calm shoreline where the water is relatively quiet even when most of the north shore is too rough for safe swimming. There is a public boat ramp and a 300-foot long pier used for fishing and swimming.

Hanalei Beach is great. I love it. Every time we go to Kauai we spend a couple of days here. What is so great about it. For one, it is huge. This beach goes goes on for miles. So you can find a spot that is not crowded with some walking. The surf is usually pretty tame here. So you can swim or boogie board or surf when other parts of the island are raging. Finally if you go to the Northeastern part of the beach you can have terrific sunsets. The sun sets over Bali Hai and the views can be outstanding.
With the positives, there are negatives. First this is a busy beach. While it is very large you will not feel like you are by yourself. Also it does not have the best sand of the beaches in Kauai. Not sure why that is. Finally, Hanalei river can dump a lot of mud into Hanalei bay putting the water off color.

We spent quite a bit of time at this beach and it is a great spot to catch a sunset. Good beach for swimming, frisbee, and drinking beer. Didn't seem like the best place to snorkel.
