Na Pali Coast State Wilderness Park
The Na Pali Coast is a very special place. The pali, or cliffs, provide a rugged grandeur of deep, narrow valleys ending abruptly at the sea. Waterfalls and swift flowing streams continue to cut these narrow valleys while the sea carves cliffs at their mouths. Extensive stone walled terraces can still be found on the valley bottoms where Hawaiians once lived and cultivated taro.

There is a difficult 11 mile hiking trail that ends at a secluded beach where you can camp. You need a permit to hike past the 2 mile mark. Others access the coastline via kayak or a boat tour.

This is not to be missed. But it is easy to miss. You can see it in a few different ways. You can take a helicopter ride, which I have not done, but hear it is very nice. You can take a cruise, which I have done, and it is very nice. You can hike the Kalalau trail. Or you could take out a kayak from Ke'e beach. Whichever you chose, you need to see it. If the only thing you can do is drive to the top of Waimea caynon up to the Na Pali viewpoint, do that.
What makes Na Pali special is everthing about it. Magnificent cliffs, amazing colors, waterfalls, caves, beaches. The cliffs are out of this world. And the colors of the cliffs defy imaginiation.
A cruise is probably the most common way of seeing Na Pali. Most cruises start from the south side of Kauai and have to travel a fair way before they get to Na Pali. If you can find a cruise from the North shore, that is your best bet as you don't spend as much time getting to Na Pali. We went with Liko and it was great.

All I can say about this place is WOW.. One of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. We took a boat tour at a kiosk in the shopping area in Hanalei. We departed from the southwest side of the island and went north up the coast. We stopped pretty early into the trip for some snorkelling which was decent, but didn't see anything too exciting. Our boat operaters were very good and maneuvered the boat into caves, one of which had a waterfall pouring in through a hole in the ceiling. I wish I could remember the name of the company, because I thought they did a good job.
