'Opaeka'a Falls is a pretty cascade about 150 ft. high, along 'Opaeka'a Stream, in Kapa'a on the east side of Kauai. 'Opaeka'a means "rolling shrimp" in Hawaiian. Apparently, in old days, shrimp could be found in the stream at the base of the falls. There is a developed, and popular tourist viewpoint along Kuamo'o Rd (Hwy 580). From here, you can see 'Opaeka'a Falls from a distance.

This is a very easy waterfall to get to. You can see it from the road. The main complaint is that you can't get very close to it. In fact if you could get close to it, it would probably be very highly reated. Actually, I have heard there is a way to hike down to the pool below the waterfall, but I have not been able to figure it out. yet..

Nice waterfall, but I think the water levels were a little low when we were there compared to other pics I have seen. Also, this would be a much better attraction if you could get closer.
