Polihale State Park
Braving a long and rutted dirt road rewards the traveler with a stunning beach park. Picnicking and tent camping on wild coastline with large sand beach backed by dunes. Scenic setting, colorful sunsets and good views of the high sea cliffs of Na Pali Coast. Swimming in summer during calm conditions; shore fishing. Beware of strong, offshore currents. Hot, dry area. Most of the beach is unprotected and currents can be strong. The best place to swim is Queen's Pond at the northern end of the park.

There is nothing particularly interesting about Polihale. Most people visiting Kauai do not spend a lot of time on the West side of the island. They make it to Waimea Canyon and that is as far as they get. The west side of Kauai is dry and hot. The reason I give this beach a good review is that if the weather is poor or chilly on the other side of the island you can give this beach a shot. Chances are it will be sunny and warm. If it is hot and sunny in Lihue then it will probably be roasting over at Polihale. So Polihale is a good beach if the weather is not working for you on the other side.
I would not advise water activities on this beach except for the best of ocean conditions. The beach is steep and the current is strong. But the sand is very pleasant, that is if it is not burning your feet off. Finally Polihale ends right at the begining of the Napali coast line, so you can get some nice views of Napali. But nothing like you get if you take a cruise, kayak, or helicopter.
