Duke's Kauai The Legend Lives on at Duke's Kauai "Surf's up" on the east side of Kauai with Duke's Kauai, the popular open-air restaurant dedicated to surfing legend Duke Kahanamoku.
Located right on the sands of Kalapaki Beach in front of the Kauai Marriott Resort, it is a reminder of an earlier, more romantic period in Hawaiian history.
In addition to stunning ocean views, the focal point of the restaurant is a spectacular 30-foot waterfall that splashes into a koi pond below. A veritable museum, the restaurant also features a large collection of Duke memorabilia, including historic photos, a 40-foot outrigger canoe and three of Duke's own surfboards.
Diners at Duke's Kauai enjoy a modern menu of fresh Island fish and prime steaks, complemented by tropical ocean breezes and spectacular views. A casual menu, tropical cocktails and contemporary Hawaiian entertainment are featured in the downstairs Barefoot Bar.

This is probably my favorite restaurant in all of the land. I was with sloshed when they ran out of seafood, and that was a rough night. But I have been hear at least 6 or 7 times, and it has been a quality if not excellent experience everytime. Everything is good here. Nice open air envirionment. Nice views by the deck. Excellent seafood cooked a number of different ways. Good steak and a quality salad bar. Excellent mixed drinks. Try the lava flow. Basically a pina colada with strawberry puree.

I am going to be generous and give Duke's 4 stars. When we were in Kauai in 2007, we ate 2x here. The first time was a disaster and I hadn't been that pissed in a restauarant in a very long time. Here is what happened. I don't eat steak and I was looking forward to have a nice fish dinner. When it was time to order, I was informed that they had no fish at all. I even had to ask them how it was possible for them to be out of all of their fish. I also asked if they should consider having the front desk let people know these things so they can decide if they really want to stay and wait. By this time, it was too late in the night to go anywhere else and everybody was very hungry. I ordered the salad bar. I go to get my salad and they have dismantled the salad bar - nothing left except a bowl of soppy looking caesar salad. I asked one of the employees why a waitress would allow me to order a salad bar if there wasn't one and why it would be removed when customers are still being seated???? This idiot could only utter one sentence over and over. Would you like a caesar? She must have apologized and asked me that question 10 times. I thought I was about to lose my mind and realized that everytime she asked me that, my answer was getting louder to the point that security came over and asked me if everything was OK. I explained what happened and he went and got the manager. I explained everything to the manager and he was very apologetic. They comped half our bill and right before we left, the manager brought us coupons for free dinner for all 6 of us. I could tell he really felt badly about it and I was very impressed with what they did to make up for it. We went back a couple of nights later and everything was great. The food, service, ambience, etc. I would definitely go back to Duke's. For the record this was only the 2nd time I have ever complained in a restaurant in my life. I am not one of "those people".
