Stanley is a very small, old-west style town located 60 miles north of Ketchum at the northern end of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area. Stanley is also very near beautiful Redfish Lake and the Sawtooth Wilderness area. Exploring the wilderness along with excellent trout fishing and rafting are what draw visitors here.
Stanley is located at the intersection of Hwy 21 and Hwy 75, 1 hour north of Ketchum and Sun Valley, and 130 miles (3 hours) northeast of Boise. The eastern side of the town is flanked by the Salmon River which is also known as, "The River of No Return".
In addition to reaching Stanley by car, air taxi flights are available from Boise, McCall, and other locations.
Stanley, Idaho is one of the coldest places in the contiguous 48 states, and on many days, has the lowest temperature. Winters are brutally cold. Summer days are warm (not often hot), but temperatures often drop below freezing on summer nights. During the summer, there can be nearly a 50 degree swing between the high and low.
