Michigan

Michigan is a state in the Great Lakes region of the United States and borders 4 of the 5 lakes. As such, it has the longest freshwater coastline of any politically defined area in the world. Michigan is divided by the Straits of Mackinac that connect Lake Huron to Lake Michigan. North of the strait is the Upper Peninsula and south is the Lower Peninsula. The name Michigan is a French version of the Ojibwe Indian word mishigama, meaning "large water". The state, particularly Detroit, is well known for being the automobile production capital of the U.S.. Michigan is also a popular tourist destination due to its lakes and forests which cover 50% of the state's land area.
