Nevada is a state located in the western region of the United States. It is bordered on the north by Idaho, the west by California, the east by Utah, and the south and southeast by Arizona. Most of the northern part of the state is covered by the Great Basin, a desert that experiences hot temperatures in the summer and cold temperatures in the winter. Most of the southern portion of the state, including Las Vegas lies in the very hot and dry Mojave Desert. Nearly 86% of the state's land is owned by the U.S federal government, much of which is used for military and nuclear testing. The capital of Nevada is Carson City and the largest city is Las Vegas. Nevada is well-known as a playground for adults with legalized gambling, liberal marriage and divorce laws, and relaxed prostitution laws.
