Maina Sunset
Maina Sunset is located on the southern end of the main island in Aitutaki Lagoon, overlooking the motu (islet) of Maina. Nestled amongst trees on the beach is our small, friendly 12-unit property.

Maina Sunset is the perfect accommodation for those travelers who are budget conscious but want good quality accommodation.

Although there is no swimming beach at this property, guest staying here have access tone of the best swimming and snorkeling areas in Aitutaki – the white sand bars and beaches of Maina Island – no more than 5 minutes by boat. Maina sunset arranges daily snorkeling and lagoon cruises daily for its guests. Maina Island is surely a great escape even from mainland Aitutaki. Fresh water swmimmng pool is welcome relief on those warm Aituaki evnings.

Their is an informal restaurant on site serving Tropical Island Breakfast daily as well as dinners on request. The on site shop also provides beverages.

We were in Aitutaki for 3 days and stayed 2 of them at The Maina Sunset (the other was on One Foot Island). This motel is by no means fancy, or even nice, but it was adequate for us and very affordable. The rooms are very clean and have ceiling fans, but no AC or any other frills. It is quiet unless we are there and located across the road from the water, which doesn't really have a beach. The location certainly isn't ideal.

The best part about staying here is that the road heading south from the motel is a very fun (and challenging) scooter ride. This bush trail will take you along the coast through plantations. We did this trip after a good rain and we were covered in mud after riding through there.

Due to a lot of recent press about Aitutaki, a number of new resorts have been built and lodging here is VERY expensive. The Maina Sunset is about the best option if you are on a budget. It is livable for those who don't need the extras and are willing to drive elsewhere to get to the beach.
